In “The Currency Wars,” Andreas examines what Bitcoin’s place is within the international world of finance, and what role it may play in the economic turbulence to come with capital controls, hyperinflation, cashlessness, trade wars, and demonetisation. In the previous episode, “Streaming Money,” he talked about the future possibilities of Bitcoin as money. Now he explains that the state of the traditional financial system will not only affect how Bitcoin is designed and deployed, but why the presence of a borderless, censorship-resistant money will provide an exit from these bubbles of bordered, nationalist “flag money.”

This talk took place on December 3rd 2016 at the Coinscrum MiniCon, hosted by Imperial College in London, England.

CLARIFICATION:

At 5:24, Andreas mentions India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi declaring that rupee notes in the 500 and 1000 denominations (which accounted for over 30% of the rupee supply value) would be taken out of circulation; not all rupee notes or the rupee currency as a whole.
